2010 preview for Jaime Serna

This was last year's preview of Jaime Serna: http://gauchohoops.blogspot.com/2009/10/gaucho-preview-jaime-serna.html

Serna emerged as a starter and the Gauchos' most prolific true post player in the 2009 - 2010 season, achieving career-best averages of 7.8 points and 4.1 rebounds, respectively. However, it was later in the season when his production increased at the most opportune portion of the season, when the Gauchos made a run on their way to the Big West regular season and Conference Tournament championships. The 6'9" junior power forward averaged 11.0 points and shot an impressive 64.3% from the field in the final eight games of the season, excluding the NCAA tournament game against Ohio State.

The burly forward continued to defend the opposing team's best post player, even when he was at a height disadvantage. His 26 steals and 18 blocked shots were second highest on the team in both categories. Serna not only held his own against taller players, he even dominated the paint at times, prompting Coach Bob Williams to proclaim Serna deserved All-Big West accolades.

If Serna continues to improve, he may prove Coach Williams prescient in 2011.
