Gauchos route the Aggies 68 - 47

The UCSB Men's basketball team pulled away in the second half to defeat UC-Davis 68 - 47 in a Big West game. The game was broadcast on ESPNU, as 4,282 fans rocked the Thunderdome. The Gauchos' (7 - 6, 2 - 1) aggressive defense stifled the Aggies (6 - 9, 2 - 1), limiting them to 21 points in the second half.

James Nunnally led four Gauchos in double figures with 17 points, followed by Jaime Serna's 14 points. Nunnally and Serna also led the Gauchos in rebounding with 8 and 5, respectively. Orlando Johnson dished out five assists to go with 12 points, while Jordan Weiner had an outstanding game off the bench with four assists and four steals.

Julian Welch led the Aggies with 12 points off the bench, followed by Joe Harden and Dominic Calegari with 11 points each. Calegari led the Ags with five boards.

Both teams played to a 26 - 26 tie in the first half, but the Gauchos pulled away in the second half with a stifling defense, which led to numerous fast-break baskets, including resounding dunks by Johnson, Nunnally, and Serna.

UCSB Squeaks by UCD 66-64

The UCSB Men's basketball team came back from a double digit deficit to beat the UC-Davis Aggies 66-64 in the Thunderdome. The Gauchos earned a split with the Aggies, after losing in Davis 89-75 earlier this season. Freshmen James Nunnally and Jaime Serna led the Gauchos with 18 and 13 points, respectively. Chris Devine led the Gauchos with 7 rebounds, and chipped in 11 points. Joe Harden led the Aggies with 20 points and 9 rebounds, while Vince Oliver added 19 points.

Up next is UC-Riverside March 5 in the Thunderdome at 7 pm.

Hot UC-Davis takes down UCSB 89-75

The hot-shooting UC-Davis Aggies ran away in the second half, overwhelming the UCSB Men's basketball team 89-75. Chris Devine turned in a herculean effort, leading the Gauchos with 27 points and 8 rebounds. Greg Somogyi had another career-high 14 points. Vince Oliver led a balanced Aggie attack with 21 points.

UCSB takes down Cal Poly SLO 72-62 in road win

The UCSB Men's basketball team defeated the Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo Mustangs 72-62 in a Big West showdown between the two Central Coast teams. DJ Posley led the Gauchos with a career-high 17 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists. Jordan Wiener also clocked in with a career-high 14 points, including 4-8 from beyond the 3-pt. line. Both bench players were joined by Greg Somogyi who also had a career-high 8 points. James Powell added 9 points while Chris Devine chipped in with 8 points and 6 rebounds. The Mustangs were led by Shawn Lewis with 16 points.
