UOP defeats UCSB 58-36

The University of Pacific Tigers throttled the UCSB Men's basketball team in a low-scoring affair. No Gauchos reached double figures, as James Nunnally led the Gauchos with 9 points, while Chris Devine chipped in 8 points and 7 rebounds. Chad Troyer led the Tigers with 14 points, including 4-7 from beyond the 3 point line.

Hot UC-Davis takes down UCSB 89-75

The hot-shooting UC-Davis Aggies ran away in the second half, overwhelming the UCSB Men's basketball team 89-75. Chris Devine turned in a herculean effort, leading the Gauchos with 27 points and 8 rebounds. Greg Somogyi had another career-high 14 points. Vince Oliver led a balanced Aggie attack with 21 points.

UCSB takes down Cal Poly SLO 72-62 in road win

The UCSB Men's basketball team defeated the Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo Mustangs 72-62 in a Big West showdown between the two Central Coast teams. DJ Posley led the Gauchos with a career-high 17 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists. Jordan Wiener also clocked in with a career-high 14 points, including 4-8 from beyond the 3-pt. line. Both bench players were joined by Greg Somogyi who also had a career-high 8 points. James Powell added 9 points while Chris Devine chipped in with 8 points and 6 rebounds. The Mustangs were led by Shawn Lewis with 16 points.

UCSB collapses in 2nd half against CSUF

The UCSB Men's basketball team lost another double-digit lead against CSU-Fullerton 62-58 in a home game at the Thunderdome. Josh Akognon exploded for 29 points, 20 in the 2nd half to lead the Titans. James Powell led the Gauchos in a losing effort with 19 points, while Chris Devine followed up with 13 points and a team-leading 9 rebounds.

The Gauchos travel to San Luis Obispo to take on Cal Poly in another Big West matchup on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 7:00 p.m.

UCSB defeats UCI 68-61 in the Thunderdome

The UCSB Men's basketball team defeated UC-Irvine for their first Big West Conference win in the Thunderdome. James Powell led the Gauchos with 19 points, followed by a career-high 18 points by Will Brew, Jr. Brew had a hot shooting night, connecting on 6-7 from the 3-point line. Brew also led the Gauchos with 5 rebounds, while DJ Posley contributed 4 assists.

UC-Riverside defeats UCSB 71-69

The UCSB Men's basketball team lost to the UC-Riverside Highlanders 71-69 in a Big West matchup in Riverside. Chris Devine once again led the Gauchos with 24 points and 8 rebounds in a losing cause, while James Powell chipped in 11 points. UCSB held a 46-32 halftime lead, but once again couldn't hold it, as UCR staged a furious comeback, led by Kyle Austin and Javon Borum's 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Gauchos lose 76-64 to LBSU in Big West opener

The UCSB Men's basketball team lost their Big West conference opener to the Long Beach State 49ers 76-64, in a game at the Pyramid in Long Beach. Chris Devine led the Gauchos with 20 points and 8 rebounds, followed by James Powell who chipped in 10 points, along with 5 assists. The Gauchos led 26-19 with 9 minutes remaining in the first half by hitting 6-7 3 point shots, but ended up squandering the lead, and trailed 36-29 at halftime. They were never able to regain the lead, as Long Beach pulled away in the second half by hitting their 3 point shots. Casper Ware led the 49ers with 21 points, including shooting 3-3 from 3-point range.

UCSB defeats Ball State 71-51

The UCSB Men's basketball team defeated visiting Ball State in a final tune-up before the conference season starts. James Powell led a balanced Gaucho attack with 15 points, followed by Chris Devine and James Nunnally, each with 12 points. Devine and Jaime Serna led the Gauchos with 7 rebounds apiece, while Greg Somogyi paced the Gauchos with 4 blocks. Somogyi started for the injured Jesse Byrd, out 4 - 6 weeks, while Jordan Weiner and Nunnally also made their first career starts.
